On Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020, Trooper Matthew Merrill of the NH State Police – Troop F was shot and wounded in the line of duty. Remarkably, Trooper Merrill survived the critical incident. The event however, left him with serious injuries and a long road to recovery.
The State Police Association of Massachusetts created a Benevolent Fund to assist, not only our members, but other first responders injured in the line of duty. This fund has assisted community members in need and has again stepped up and provided immediate financial assistance, directly to NHSP Trooper Merrill and his family.
On Thursday, December 24, 2020, members of the State Police Association presented a check to NHSP Tpr. Harrison Walters at the Rt. 95 State Line. Tpr. Walters accepted the check from Sgt. Patrick Foley (pictured in the photo). Tpr. Walters generously transported the check to the family of Trooper Merrill to assist them in their time of need.
The Association Benevolent Fund is a 501(c)(3) charity that provides financial assistance to first responders and their families during times when they are unable to perform their duties due to extended illness or injury and provides resources to families that have lost a member of the public safety community. In addition, the fund assists members of our community during the time of need.
The Association Benevolent Fund relies on the generosity of philanthropic individuals, corporations and foundations. There are many ways you can help support the State Police Association of Massachusetts Benevolent Fund.
The ‘Protect & Serve’ Special License Plate is now available through the state Registry of Motor Vehicles. The plates cost $40, $28 of which goes directly to the Association Benevolent Fund in the first year. When you renew this specialty plate in two years, all $40 goes directly to fund.
